SHE DEFIED ME.
On Monday May 23rd, the New Jersey Senate Judiciary Committee heard testimony from Judge Paul X Escandon. Escandon, a Monmouth County judge with a notorious public record of abusing domestic violence victims, was nominated by Governor Christie for tenure. Forty protesters attended the hearing in opposition of his tenure nomination. As the Senate Committee members grilled Escandon about why, in one particular case, he would have taken three children away from the safe primary caregiving mother, a domestic violence survivor, and order them to live with a reputed mobster who served time for both murder and drugs, he answered, “SHE DEFIED ME.”
Judge Paul Escandon may very well have a personal war on women.
And maybe not.
Perhaps it’s a personal war against women who stand up to him. Women who are opposed to his outrageous and illegal orders that violate their rights to keep and raise their children. Women who are opposed to his putting their innocent defenseless children in harm’s way. Women who are against being impoverish by court orders when their wealthy ex’s can easily afford to pay support. Women who are survivors of domestic violence who believe that the rights, safety, health and wellbeing of them and their precious children must be the top priority in a court of law.
Any way you choose to look at it, we need our Senators to PICK THE RIGHT JUDGES. Judges like Escandon reflect poorly on the court system as a whole, harm New Jersey’s most precious resource, our children, and destroy women’s lives. His nomination for tenure must be STOPPED.
YOU can make a difference by TAKING ACTION TODAY. Regardless of where you live, send an email to the New Jersey Senate Judiciary Committee members (emails listed below), and let them know how you feel about this. Demand also, that this not be a back room Senate vote. The New Jersey Senate Judiciary Committee is made up mostly of Democrat attorneys. Judge Escandon, an attorney, is also a Democrat. If the Senate makes a decision based on “party loyalty” BEFORE the safety and rights of their constituents, it will be a complete travesty of justice.
